NAPIT Membership Number 13518
NAPIT is an organisation committed to householder safety in the domestic sector and ensures that through the competence of our registered installers, householders can be confident the work carried out on their home complies with the relevant regulations.
NAPIT constantly strive to increase public awareness of the inherent dangers of poorly installed work and the potential dangers posed by non-competent tradespeople.
NAPIT operate a comprehensive and rigorous Code of Practice for our registered installers, who are assessed on a yearly basis to ensure they continue to work to the highest standards. When choosing an electrician, you should check for this accreditation.
Checkatrade runs strict background checks on tradespeople before they can become members. Once they join, members agree to have feedback from their customers put online for all to see. Members promise to meet The Checkatrade Standard. No other directory of tradespeople uses this model. The background checks and public feedback ensure that only reliable and trusted tradespeople get work through Checkatrade. They make sure that you can find someone outstanding to get the job done.
Kent County Council Trading Standards and Checkatrade are working in partnership to provide a recommended trader scheme that supports legitimate businesses and helps consumers choose traders they can trust and rely upon. Each trader under this scheme undergoes a rigorous vetting procedure.
NAPIT Registered Installers working in the domestic sector have the option to sign up to a consumer code of practice that complies with the government's award-winning anti-cowboy TrustMark scheme and confirms that NAPIT Registered Installers work to good health and safety practices, monitor quality and customer care and hold the correct insurance documentation at all times.
Furthermore, if as a homeowner you choose to use a NAPIT Tradesman also registered with TrustMark, you will have the added peace of mind that they have not only been assessed by NAPIT for the correct qualifications and business practices to carry out a fair job at a fair price, they will also be fully approved by TrustMark and independently checked to ensure consumer protection.
Work Quality Guarantee for Your Peace of Mind…
All work that is completed under a written contract and is notified to NAPIT is covered by a Work Quality Guarantee. In the event that your tradesperson is no longer in business, NAPIT provides a warranty to ensure that your installation will comply with the appropriate industry standards for six years from the date of completion.
In 2005 the Government introduced electrical safety rules into the Building Regulations for England and Wales. Because of this, most fixed electrical installation work in homes must, by law, meet the Building Regulations.
Part P states that anyone carrying out electrical installation work in a home must make sure that the work is designed and installed to protect people from fire and electric shocks.
Part P applies to any changes made to existing installations, including any parts that have been rewired. In April 2013, further changes were introduced, reducing the range of electrical installation work that is notifiable - removing some requirements in kitchens and outdoors.
Competent Person Schemes (CPS) were introduced by the UK government to allow individuals and enterprises to self-certify that their work complies with the Building Regulations as an alternative to submitting a building notice or using an approved inspector.
A Competent Person must be registered with a scheme that has been approved by The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG). To understand why you should use a Competent Person, download the consumer booklet here.
